Well, it looks like we're having a real winter in New Jersey this year! Snow makes everything look beautiful. If you are shoveling, please read and do the following:
DO
1. Dress warmly in light layers of loose
clothing. Wear a hat, gloves and galoshes or
boots. Remove outer layers as you
warm up.
2. Shovel down hills and steps.
3. Bend from
knees and hips. Keep your elbows close to your body.
4. Use a
push-scoop type shovel for light snowfall.
5. Alternate sides--right and
left--tossing snow. Keep your elbows close to your
body
while tossing snow.
6. Remember
to clear fire hydrants.
7. Drink plenty
of non-alcoholic fluids before and after to avoid dehydration.
8. STOP
IMMEDIATELY IF YOU EXPERIENCE ANY CHEST PAIN.
DON'T
1. Don't smoke.
2. Don't drink alcohol.
3. Don't bend from the waist.
4. Don't twist to toss snow.
5. Don't overfill the shovel, especially
with wet snow.
6. Don't rush--shoveling is a whole body
endeavor.
7. Don't
shovel if you have a history of heart disease or low back problems.
